Resume Builder FAQ

Last updated: February 6, 2006

FAQ provides answers to questions that are commonly asked about Resume Builder.

Q: When I attempt to print any of my saved resumes, the page always comes out with the file name at the bottom left of the page, along with the "Page 1 of 2" at the top right, and "Resume..." at the top left. How do I fix this?
A: Open your resume in Resume Builder.
On the File menu, select Page Setup. The program displays the Page Setup dialog box. Clear the Header and Footer fields and then click the OK button.

You can also select the Print Preview menu items on the File menu. In the Print Preview dialog box, you can click the Page Setup tool tip image or press Alt+U. On the Page Setup dialog box, change the Header and Footer settings and click the OK button.

Q: I get the following error when I try to convert a resume to a Microsoft document:
---------------------------
ResumeBuilder
---------------------------
Code = 80004005. Source = RBConvert.Convert.1.

Description = Create instance of Word.Application failed in module: CConvert::Process()

A: To convert a resume to Microsoft® Word, you must install Word 97 or newer.

Q: When I export a resume to Word, all the tables and lines show up, though they do not appear in HTML. How can I make the table look good in the Word format?
A: This is an option of Word. Open Word and open the resume. Then, on the Table menu, select the Show Grid/Hide Grid item as needed.

Q: How can I export my resume from Resume Builder to Microsoft Word?
A: Resume Builder 4.x offers several new features, including exporting resumes to the Microsoft Word, text and HTML formats. If you have Resume Builder of the v1.0 or v1.1, download and install Resume Builder of the version 4.x. Export to Microsoft Word and HTML formats is available for registered users only. To register the program, visit our order page.

Q: I don't have an FTP site. How can I publish my resume file via FTP?
A: You can obtain free FTP service via the following WEB sites:
www.50megs.com, www.angelfire.com, www.fortunecity.com, www.freewebspace.com, www.freeyellow.com, www.geocities.com, www.polbox.com, www.tripod.com
All of these sites can be accessed through FTP.

Q: When I try to install the program, it comes up with an error message: “File instmsia.exe not found.” Can you help?
A: Microsoft updated their installation program after they released Windows 98. Our software requires that you have the updated installer. We do not include it in the download, because it increases the size of the download. Also, most users have already installed the latest Windows installer.

If you get the previous error message, you can download a free upgrade file and run it to update your Windows installer. And, then, run the Resume Builder Installer again.

You can read more about the installer at the Microsoft web site:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q305496

Click one of the following links to download a 1.4 Mb file. Important: Microsoft creates and distributes this software. Therefore, Sarm Software cannot guarantee the software effectiveness or compatibility with your computer.

If you have Windows 95/98/Me, download:
http://www.sarmsoft.com/setup/instmsia.exe

If you have Windows NT 4.x, download:
http://www.sarmsoft.com/setup/instmsiw.exe

After you download the file, run the program and start the Resume Builder installer again.

Q: When I print the resume, I have the Footer and Title. How can I remove them?
A: Resume Builder uses the same setup as does Internet Explorer. Open Internet Explorer and then select the File-> Page Setup-> Footer and Header menu item. Select and edit these items.

Q: Where can I find Cover Letter examples?
A: Resume Builder has several examples of cover letters. You are free to use them. Run Resume Builder, open the Send Resume via E-mail dialog box, and click the Cover Letter examples button.

Q: Can I print, export or send via e-mail selected parts of the resume?
A: The Resume Builder database engine is divided into Published Sections, each of them mirroring one of available sections of a resume. These sections are: Personal Information, Objective, Summary, Educational History, Employment History, Honors/Awards, Skill Areas, References, Publications, Licenses and Certification, Military History. You can work with each of these sections individually, such as print, export, send via e-mail, and upload any of the sections to an ftp site.

Q: I have downloaded the newest version of the program, and it seems to have more features of what I need. What are the chances you would send me the unlock code for this version, so I can use it instead of the old one? Can we swap?
A: Yes. Once you purchase your registration code, you will receive free licenses to future versions of Resume Builder.
